MASTERCLASS FORMAT

Booking Process

To get things started, first decide if you want to join a public class or, if there are six or more of you, set up a private class of your own. Choose from our range of different menu and class varieties to tailor your online cocktail making experience to best suit your tastes.

Delivery & Prep

All the equipment and ingredients required are delivered straight to your door a few days prior. The pack also includes guidance on how to set up your bar station and how to make your own ice at home, which you’ll ideally need to do in advance.

Class Length & Invitation

On the day of your virtual class, we’ll send out a Zoom meeting invitation which will include a ‘waiting room’. Once everybody has logged in, your host will kick off the masterclass.

Each of our interactive virtual cocktail classes last roughly 30mins – 2 hours depending on the option you have chosen.

Introduction of Cocktail Class

Your virtual host will go around the group to ensure you’re all set up, before introducing some of the key concepts behind cocktail making. Pour your pre-batched reception cocktail into a glass with ice to enjoy during the class introduction.

Make a Variety of Cocktails

Once everybody has set themselves up, your host will take you through each drink one by one whilst guests attempt to recreate them as closely as possible before drinking. In between each cocktail, your host will go around each participant to get feedback on how their creation went. We have class options to make two, three, or even four cocktails.

Competition

To round off your class, each bar will then be pitted against the rest and given 8 minutes to produce their very own cocktail creation, using the ‘mystery ingredients’ we include in your pack as well as any garnish you can find around your house.

The items you will need from the kitchen are a small knife and a small or medium size chopping board. These are only the ideal sizes – if you only have a meat cleaver and a tree trunk they will still do the trick.

*Please note, non-alcoholic options are available for each cocktail. Nobody gets left out.

  • We came to the cocktail making class as a work social. Firstly, the drinks we were making were all delicious and proper boozy. Secondly, the room and the whole building are absolutely stunning and such a lovely setting to be in. Most importantly, our mixologist, Marcus, was an absolute gem. His instructions were very clear and his trivia unmatched. He had unwavering patience despite how rowdy some of us got towards the end and such positive energy.

Highly highly recommend and will definitely be back soon!

Mixology Events cocktail making studio set up ready for a class

Step 1. Choose Your Class

The first step towards your virtual cocktail class is choosing which class type suits you, or your group, the most.

Individuals & Small Groups:

Our rotating selection of public scheduled classes every Friday and Saturday evening and are great for groups of five or less. You’ll be joining a group of like-minded people from all around the world, with no more than 20 of you online at any one time, ensuring everyone can get a word in edgewise.

Larger Groups:

We also offer our private virtual classes to groups of six or more. These classes allow for a much greater degree of customisation in terms of drink & menu selection, and flexibility in terms of timings. Get in touch with one of our team if you’d like to take us on privately, and they can talk you through your options.

Step 2. Delivery

Next, it’s our turn. Once you’ve made your booking with us – whether you’re attending a public or private class – we’ll get to work on putting together your boxes and getting them to you, wherever in the world you may be.

A few days before your scheduled class, you’ll receive your box containing all the equipment and ingredients you’ll need for your upcoming class. To date, we’ve shipped our boxes all over the country as well as abroad so if you’re not currently in the UK please don’t be put off.

An extra bit of guidance included in each Mixology Events virtual cocktail making class box

Step 3. Prep

As well as the equipment and specialist ingredients, your box will contain a number of documents which will outline what you need to do on your end in preparation for your class.

This will include how to set up your equipment beforehand, how to join your virtual class, what extra bits and pieces of simple equipment you’ll need, and how to make your own ice in advance at home.

Step 4. On The Day

Once you’ve prepared everything on your end, all that’s left to do is wait for the invitation from your chosen video link software, which you should receive via the email you used upon booking.

You’ll be allowed into a ‘waiting room’, and once everyone is present your class will begin. Your experienced host will kick things off with a class introduction while you enjoy your pre-bottled welcome cocktail. Guests will then be led through a number of cocktail creations (depending on your class type), with time set aside after each drink for feedback.

Finally, to indulge our competitive sides, the class will conclude with a competition. Each participant (or group of participants) will face off against the rest to produce the best cocktail using the mystery ingredient in their box. After 8 minutes, your host will ask for the contents, name, and story behind your creation and decide the winner.

Inside our all-inclusive box, you’ll find all the tools, guidance and ingredients required to embark on your virtual cocktail class with us:

  • Cocktail Shaker: One of the most important tools in any bartender’s armoury, your cocktail shaker is a crucial component in the creation of many iconic cocktails.
  • Bar Spoon: Inside your box, you’ll also receive a long, flat-ended steel bar spoon – sometimes known as Mazagran spoons – as standard. Crucial in terms of stirring down classic drinks like Negronis and Old Fashioneds.
  • Jigger/Measure: A really useful little tool, which is key to getting your drinks ratios bang-on.
  • Strainers: Inside your box, you’ll also find two strainers – a fine strainer and Hawthorne strainer. Your Hawthorne strainer is used to separate large blocks of ice from your drink when pouring, whilst the fine strainer is used to pick up smaller pieces of ice and debris.
  • Muddler: This is essentially a device used to mash and mix up ingredients. Think mint in a Mojito.
  • Ingredients: All the high-quality ingredients, including premium spirits, liqueurs, juices, and fresh fruit, are sent out from our specialist liquor store straight to your door.
  • Guidance: Finally, your box will also contain some in-depth guidance documents, designed to help you get everything ready before your class.

How much is shipping?

Shipping fees are included in the stated price for all UK-based purchases. Please note that international shipments may vary – please feel free to give us a call before you book just to confirm!

Am I able to hold a class at any time of day?

Absolutely, we can do a class at any time of day, week or year, we just need enough time to set up all the bars beforehand and break them down again afterwards, this is usually between about an hour and two hours either side of the class depending on the size. We can be very flexible when coming to you.

So how big are your portable bars?

We’d recommend you allow a space of about a meter and a half depth and a meter and a half-width for each bar, that allows enough space for the bars to be set up and for people to stand behind them. The bars are assembled on-site and pack down to be fairly compact so there’s no need to really worry about door-width.

How are bookings confirmed?

Generally, after a longer conversation with your event organiser about your event, you will need to put down a 30% deposit to confirm your booking and provide a home or company address to detail. This will all be sent over via email, along with the terms and conditions outlined. The final balance will be due a week before your class or event, generally once numbers are confirmed.

What happens if there’s a change in my group size?

This will be shared when you make your booking, but we’ll need your confirmed numbers 7 days before the class is scheduled. This ideally will be conducted via email with your event organiser, who will send you your final invoice. If there are any changes less than 7 days before your class, it is unlikely that we will be able to amend the final invoice, so please keep in touch with your event organiser.

How long do you need to set up?

Depending on your group size we will need 1 ½ – 2 hours before and after your class to set up and break down.

Can we have the class in my garden?

Yes we have hosted classes outside before, just be aware we will need a flat ground to set up the bars properly.

FAQs

Do you do virtual cocktail making for couples?

Yes, we do virtual cocktail making classes for 2 people. On our 100% interactive public sessions, which are held every other Friday from 6:30pm, you’ll be joining a wider group of like-minded couples, families, and friends all learning the art of making cocktails simultaneously.

How much are virtual cocktail classes for two?

Our virtual cocktail kits cost £100 for one person, or £120 for two, and are delivered directly to your door anywhere in the world via UPS or DPD international shipping.

What do I get in a virtual cocktail kit?

Inside every virtual cocktail kit you’ll get a stainless steel cocktail shaker, bar spoon, measure, speed pourer, drip mat, muddler, Hawthorne strainer, and all the high-quality ingredients, spirits, and guidance required to take part in a session. All you’ll need to provide is a knife, chopping board, glassware and some ice.

Will your class improve my homemade cocktails?

Without a doubt, our classes will improve your homemade cocktails. We tailor all our cocktail making classes to fit cocktail enthusiasts of all ability levels, from beginners to seasoned pros, and our rotating menu is often packed with delicious, easy to make cocktail classics. We also provide all the equipment you’ll ever need (to keep) so that when you next make cocktails at home you’ll be doing so in style.

What’s the difference between a cocktail making class, cocktail masterclass, and a cocktail lesson?

We’ve decided to call them ‘cocktail making classes’, rather than ‘cocktail masterclasses’ or ‘cocktail lessons’, because we feel it best described the service we were offering. For example, we thought ‘cocktail masterclasses’ suggested that you would be tasting cocktails rather than getting your hands dirty, whilst ‘cocktail lessons’ we thought sounded perhaps a little too much like going to school. Our cocktail classes, we believe, strike the perfect balance between fun and factual, hence the name.

Do you offer any mixology courses?

In normal times, yes we do offer mixology courses and bartender training. However, in light or the coronavirus, we have stopped doing this as regularly. However, thanks to our new virtual classes there is now the potential to take our mixology courses online, whereby we can teach any and all aspiring bartenders the tricks of the trade to get them started off via Zoom.

MOBILE CLASSES – Any Size, Any Time, Any Location, Any Day

We have been specialising in delivering top-quality cocktail classes for over a decade, and in that time we have continuously improved and fine-tuned our experience so we can proudly call ourselves the best on the market.

Many bars offer their own versions of cocktail masterclasses, but they are often not fit for purpose. It is cramped, not fully set up to allow all your guests to continually practice their cocktail making skills for the whole duration of the class, and you are often learning in front of a public audience in busier bars. Not Ideal.

WHERE?

We host the majority of our masterclasses at TT Liquor, where we have 4 dedicated masterclass lounges that are fully set up when you arrive – freeing you up to make cocktails continuously for 2 hours without waiting for anyone to set anything up for you.

We do that all before you arrive. The rooms come in a variety of sizes and cater for groups of 6 up to 80.

If you have a location in mind we also specialists in bring the complete set up with us. All the bars, with all the equipment, all the liquor, fresh products and ice. You simply let us know where you would like it to be and we set it all up in less than an hour and a half. We then offer the same experience you find at TT Liquor at any location you can think of.

EQUIPMENT & TUITION

Each bar also comes fully stocked, so that everyone on that bar (max 5 guests per bar) can make cocktails throughout their masterclass, with no interruption and no standing around watching. There are 3, 6, 8 and 16 bars set up in the 4 respective cocktail making lounges across our four-floor venue at TT Liquor and we have a total of 42 of these bars so we can perform a masterclass for up to 210 guests, all still receiving the same experience and all still making cocktails together!

We also provide you with your own professional bartender, who will be your dedicated host for the session. After putting together a reception cocktail for you and your guests, they will then guide you through 4 different cocktails, letting all your guests in on the various tricks of the trade to make your drinks taste better than ever. The perfect skills for your guests to take away with them to show off to their friends at their next garden party or barbecue.

Our expert bartenders are at the very top of their profession and are rigorously trained to deliver the best cocktail making experience possible for groups of up to 80. Their job is to be entertaining and engaging with all your guests, while simultaneously offering unparalleled insights on how to make your cocktails taste amazing. You may not get it right the first time around, but they will work attentively with each member of your group to hone their skills.

COMPETITION

To end the session with a bang, each bar will be set loose to create their own cocktail, testing out their new skills and competing head-to-head with the other bar teams. Your expert host will then have a taste of each creation and crown the winner. There is nothing quite like a bit of healthy competition and 5 cocktails each to bring a group together!

WHO?

Our cocktail classes have been enjoyed by budding mixologists from 18 years of age to 88, for a wide variety of occasions. Everything we do is geared towards making it an event to remember for you and your group.

WHEN?

We are lucky enough to be able to perform these classes 7 days a week and at any time of the day you wish. Due to this flexibility, we teach over 20,000 guests all the skills they’ll need to get mixing every year.

I’m thinking of organising a mobile masterclass. What do I need?

All your really need is an empty space for us to come and set up in, we can come to offices, houses, gardens, tents, rooftops… as long as we have the space and the access we can set up anywhere, you don’t need anything on your side at all.

So how big are your portable bars?

We’d recommend you allow a space of about a meter and a half depth and a meter and a half-width for each bar. That allows enough space for the bars to be set up and for people to stand behind them. The bars are assembled on-site and pack down to be fairly compact so there’s no need to really worry about door-width.

What venues are not suitable for a mobile masterclass?

We’re happy to work with most spaces but for instance, in an office, it wouldn’t work in a room full of desks. We also try and avoid using spaces with lots of columns or other obstacles that might block people’s view of the instructor. Anything on a slope wouldn’t be ideal either. We are based in London and are happy to come and do a site visit anywhere in the city if you’re unsure whether or not your space would be suitable.

Am I able to hold a class at any time of day?

Absolutely, we can do a class at any time of day, week or year. We just need enough time to set up all the bars beforehand and break them down again afterwards. This is usually between about an hour and two hours either side of the class depending on the size. We can be very flexible when coming to you.

How long do you need to set up?

Depending on your group size we will need 1 ½ – 2 hours before and after your class to set up and break down.

Do we need to supply anything for the masterclass?

All we need is a clear space to set up. We will bring everything we need to host the class including, the bars, equipment, glassware, ingredients, ice etc.

Can we have the class in my garden?

Yes we have hosted classes outside before, just be aware we will need a flat ground to set up the bars properly.

How far can you travel?

We are based in London but can travel anywhere you need us. We have hosted cocktail masterclasses in Scotland all the way to Cornwall.

Is food included?

Not as standard, no. However, we are able to add food to most events at most venues. At our flagship venue in Shoreditch, we have permanent cooking facilities meaning we can do hot or cold food. Dependent upon the facilities at our other venues, we are able to offer this as well. We’ll always be able to offer cold plates and deli boards.

Would you recommend food?

While food isn’t necessarily part of the package, it is certainly recommended. As you can imagine during two hours of making and drinking cocktails, it’s quite a good idea to line your stomachs. Even if the addition of food is a relatively last-minute decision, we will be able to cater to your needs if you get in touch with your event organiser at least 24 hours beforehand.

Do you serve hot food?

Yes, we can cater your class with hot bowl food at select venues. Please get in touch with your event organiser to double-check that yours is suitable, and for current menus.

When will the food be served?

We usually serve bar snacks and deli boards at the beginning of your class with your welcome cocktail and hot bowl food halfway through the class during a natural break.

Do you serve vegetarian/ vegan food?

Yes we can offer vegetarian or vegan options, please ask your event organiser for details about our full range.

Is there a dress code?

No, there’s no dress code per se. Wear whatever you feel comfortable in, bearing in mind you will be on your feet for around two hours. If you’re coming in fancy dress, please ensure that you highlight this to your event organiser beforehand. Nothing too crude or crass, but generally you’re in a private room so you can come pretty much as you wish.

What is the disabled access like?

We have a variety of other venues across London and the UK which have ample disabled access. Please highlight any disabilities in your party with your event organiser beforehand, and we’ll happily advise on a suitable venue.

If I’m deaf, will I be able to attend a class?

Yes of course. We have catered for deaf classes before, generally the clients will have organised an interpreter. Again, let your event organiser know beforehand and we’ll do our best to accommodate.

How are bookings confirmed?

Generally, after a conversation with your event organiser about your event, you will need to put down a 30% deposit to confirm your booking and provide a home or company address to detail. This will all be sent over via email, along with the terms and conditions outlined. The final balance will be due a week before your class or event, generally once numbers are confirmed.

I need to cancel my event, can I have my deposit refunded?

Once we have sent you the deposit invoice your event has been confirmed, therefore if you wish to cancel your event you must do this by email so we have written proof and you must do this at least 14 days prior to your event date to be eligible for a refund of your deposit. If you have booked your event with less than 7 days lead time, a cancellation must be received within 24 hours of your invoice being sent to avoid liability of payment.

When do I need to pay the final balance?

The balance of your event must be paid 7 days before your event, if payment has not been made someone from our accounts team will contact you to make payment over the phone.

Are dogs allowed?

No, unfortunately not in the classrooms.

Are under 18s allowed?

No, due to our licence under 18s will not be able to attend your class in any capacity at any venue – non-alcoholic cocktails or not.

CASE STUDY – PRIVATE CLASS

We took our mobile cocktail making class up to Hertfordshire for a hen party – we hosted the class outside in the sunshine!

The hens had rented a beautiful large house near Welwyn for the day, and the weather was absolutely perfect for al fresco cocktail making.

Our mobile classes can be taken almost anywhere – and we’ve done a number of events outside now, all of which have been great successes. It’s a great way to take advantage of the British summertime – check out the event we did for Procter & Gamble last summer.

Cocktail classes are also perfect hen party material – after 6 cocktails everyone seems to be in a good mood and up for a party!

We can host our cocktail classes at our new permanent home, TT Liquor, on Kingsland Road in Shoreditch or we can take them with us to almost any external venue of your choice throughout London or the UK.

CASE STUDY – CORPORATE CLASS

Mixology Events hosted one of our masterclasses on the 53rd floor of The Shard, located at London Bridge, central London. The cocktail making class was for 40 people and took place soon after The Shard opened in February 2013.

The security at The Shard was appropriately tight, which we took into consideration when organising the logistics of the class – we made a location visit in advance which helped to ensure there were no difficulties in keeping to schedule.

We provided 8 cocktail bars, fitting 5 guests per cocktail bar station – allowing each guest their own workspace to maximise interaction and involvement throughout the class.

The Shard is a great venue to host our classes, providing unparalleled views and providing insights into such a significant building.

Oh my word, an online Mixology class was BRILLIANT, and extremely interesting if, like me, you like making a cocktail at home. I can't rate Eve highly enough as a teacher, and she's a lovely person too. 100% would do again

We did the virtual cocktail making course as a team-building event and it was one of the most enjoyable events we've done. Very impressive kit delivered to each participant complete with spirits, mixers and cocktail making paraphernalia. Ludwig was our host, and he was hugely entertaining, knowledgeable, and, most importantly, fun!! The cocktails were great and the team loved it!! Highly recommended!

A really great evening – we did the cocktail making course, on zoom, as a team building event and it was one of the best events I have done. The delivery box is really well thought through and is beautifully put together. We had Emily host, and she was fantastic. We learned a lot, had great fun doing it and quite a lot to drink too. Would thoroughly recommend

We’re a company in Toronto, Ontario (Canada) that recently used Mixology to set up a virtual event for 50+ people in the evening/night. It turned out amazing, they were extremely professional and helpful in setting it up and it was one of the most fun virtual events we’ve done so far. They sent the kits to everyone in advance it literally included everything we needed. Our hosts were so much fun and really fit well with our team, and our event started at 7:15 PM Toronto time (meaning our hosts were up at 00:15 UK time), which we’re very appreciative of.

As Someone who has worked in bars and nightclubs since I was 18 years old, the one thing I really doubt myself with is Cocktails and the classes. The online lesson I did with Ludwig last week was an incredible and awesome experience, he was highly responsive to questions and easily and simply explained the progress of making cocktails in a way a beginner and immediate can pick up. I highly recommend him and this service – check em out

Can highly recommend a virtual cocktail event. Whether trying to get together virtually because of lockdown or because you are distances apart this is a fun way of doing it

Fantastic setup, great concept and really good fun. Emily our mixologist was so engaging, and she made the whole experience great fun, while also showing us some great drinks and tips. The package was superb and well worth it.

Kay hosted the event and walked me through making cocktails brilliantly. I am now quite drunk, which I assume was the point all along. I am an expert cocktail craftsman and will amaze my friends with my newly acquired skills and turn my life around. Thanks Kay!

LouAna was the most amazing host! I had the most enjoyable evening and we made so many cocktails and LouAna gave us so much history about the cocktails and I feel ready to start making cocktails for friends too. Can’t wait to visit after lockdown!

Fantastic night. Really enjoyed learning how to mix some drinks! All the gear supplied in the box, literally only had to bring glasses and ice (lots of ice!)
