Admiral Rodney Rum
[/ˈdeɪn(d)ʒ(ə)rəs/ /dɒn/ /ˈkafeɪ,ˈkafi/ /ˈmɛskal,mɛˈskal/] noun
This is the Saint Lucia Distillers’ flagship bottling in terms of age and complexity. Made from 100% Coffey-still rums carefully selected for their superior age and character, then blended and bottled under one label. Currently, the Admiral Rodney blend averages 12 years and the distillery is intending to get an average age of 15 years as further older stock comes of age. The bottling commemorates the English Admiral Rodney, who famously ‘broke the line’ and defeated the French fleet at the Battle of the Saintes in 1782.
The Barnard family first settled in Saint Lucia in the 1820s and established their distillery in the 1930s by making rum from molasses produced by the islands’ massive sugar plantations. Due to the rise of European sugar beet, the local sugar industry was forced into extinction. This led to negative effects on the island’s growing rum trade. With few choices remaining, the last two distilleries formed a joint venture and consolidated their operations to the picturesque Roseau Valley, creating what is known today as St. Lucia Distillers. With the history behind them, Laurie Barnard took it upon himself to restore St. Lucia’s rum providence and created Chairman’s Reserve, which has re-established the prestige of St. Lucia’s rum culture.
If you’ve enjoyed Saint Lucian rum, Admiral Rodney will provide insight into how the style of rum is going to age. With no definite age statement, this bottling is going to continue to develop with every release.

Most rums are produced in Caribbean and North and South American countries, but also in other sugar-producing countries, such as the Philippines, and Taiwan.
