Daisy cocktail and Brockmans gin bottle on a bar top

"The Daisy is a truly classic cocktail and the precursor to many modern sours including the Sidecar and the Margarita"

Daisy cocktail and Brockmans gin bottle on a bar top

How to make ...

Daisy

For Cocktails in the City this year, we’ve partnered with Brockmans Gin and 1800 Tequila to create a range of Daisies that are not only delicious but easy to make and customisable depending on drinkers’ tastes and preferences.

With a choice of base spirit, syrup and citrus, we’ve taken the standard Daisy formula and used it to create a fully customisable range of recipes, allowing CITC guests the chance to create their own version of this classic drink. We feel like this captures the essence of the Daisy, a drink that has evolved over time to become a blueprint for loads of popular cocktails and a jumping off point for bartenders to create their own spins and twists.

Hi, guys. It’s Kay. I’m back here on a beautiful, sunny day at TT Liquor. And today I’m going to be showing you how to make a really classic cocktail called a Daisy.

Now we’re going to be serving versions of this at Cocktails in the City. Today, I’m going to be making a really classic version, which is just a tequila Daisy.

And the first thing I need is some tequila. And we’ve chosen this lovely 1800 silver tequila, which is really nice for cocktails like this. And we want 35ml of our tequila.

Our next ingredient is just going to be some orange Curacao, brand is not important. Any kind of orange Curacao is going to be fine. And we want 15ml of our orange Curacao.

Right. Next up is some citrus. Now, being a very old school cocktail, this actually traditionally calls for lemon juice rather than lime juice. They’re pretty interchangeable, but to keep to traditions, we’re going with lemon juice. I’ve got some freshly squeezed lemon juice here, and I want one shot or 25ml of my lemon juice.

And one final ingredient, which kind of differentiates the Daisy from other, more modern sours, is some sweetener. We’re going to keep it real classic and just use simple syrup or sugar syrup. And we want the same amount of sweetener as we had of citrus. So one shot or 25ml.

Beautiful. So that’s all my ingredients in my shaker. Now I’m just going to go ahead and fill this up with cubed ice and give it a good hard shake.

Fill it right up, take our tin, whack it on at an angle, and we’ll give this a shake for around about 10 to 15 seconds.

Beautiful. So we’re going to pop that open. I’ve got myself a nice, sexy little rocks glass here, and I’m just going to fill that up with some cubed ice and we’ll strain our Daisy over the ice like so. Beautiful.

Now, recipes are kind of characteristically vague with what you use to garnish this. Most of them just specify that you use some fresh fruit, so to keep in the theme with the tequila. I’m just going to go classic, and I’ve got a nice little lime wheel here that I’m going to pop on the top of our drink, like so.

And that is our Daisy ready to drink.
