This Mixology Events creation is an ode to all things tropical and Brazilian. Ever eager to use cachaça in more than just a Caipirinha, our bar team came up with this exotic take on a modern, Martini-style drink. The Rio Martini combines cachaça with lime juice, grenadine and guava juice to make a bright and beautiful tropical cocktail, perfect for a summer evening.

The Rio Martini is an exotically flavoured spin on classic, fruit-forward drinks like the French Martini or the Cosmopolitan, it’s a mix of characteristically Brazilian cachaça and tropical guava juice, sweetened with fruity grenadine and balanced with tangy fresh lime.
This twist on a Martini is an out and out summer smash: sweet and fruity enough to quench thirsts on a hot day, with enough Brazilian flare to get any party started. Cachaça is Brazil’s national spirit, a slightly sweet, grassy liquor distilled from fresh sugar cane juice and there are a whole host of delicious cocktails that use it as their base. Some of our favourite cachaça cocktails to serve alongside the Rio Martini include the Batida: a blended mixture of cachaça, fresh fruit and condensed milk or coconut cream, and the classic, Caipirinha: a muddled mixture of lime, sugar and cachaça not too dissimilar from a Daiquiri.
Thanks to its bright colours and fruity flavours the Rio Marini would be right at home on a tiki-based menu—tiki drinks are always fruity and exotic but quite often tend to be large drinks, containing swathes of ingredients, which can make them slow to serve. With its simple recipe and short Martini-style serve, the Rio Martini is a great way to balance out a menu full of long drinks and help smooth out service alongside complex tiki cocktails.

Ingredients & Equipment
- 50ml Cachaca
- 25ml Guava Juice
- 20ml Lime Juice
- 12.5ml Grenadine
- Lime Wedge to Garnish
- Hawthorne Strainer
- Fine Strainer
- Mexican Elbow
- Martini Glass or Coupette
- Cubed Ice
- Chill your glass in the freezer or fill it with ice
- Take your Boston glass or small tin
- Using your jigger to measure, add the cachaca, guava juice and grenadine to the shaker
- Using your Mexican elbow and a jigger to measure, squeeze 20ml of lime juice and add it to the shaker
- Fill the shaker with cubed ice and seal using your Boston tin or lid
- Shake vigorously for 10-15 seconds or until your tin is very cold
- Remove your glass from the freezer or empty it of ice if necessary
- Using your Hawthorne strainer and your fine strainer, double strain your cocktail into your chilled Martini glass or coupette
- Garnish with a lime wedge, sliced so it rests on the edge of the glass
- Serve and enjoy!

That’s why we deliver each of our range of cocktail making classes in as interactive a fashion as possible – providing a fully-equipped bar station for each of our guests, in turn giving them a great opportunity to really get to grips with the professional-standard equipment and ingredients at hand. On top of this, the fact that there will never be more than 5 guests to any one bar limits the time spent standing around as much as possible, meaning nobody’s experience is compromised.
The open-to-the-public variety of our cocktail making classes run every Friday and Saturday at our sister company and permanent home on Shoreditch’s Kingsland Road, TT Liquor, which houses a range of fully-equipped cocktail making studios.
We also offer the option of taking things private if you’re part of a group of 6 or more aspiring mixologists. Our mobile cocktail class service allows us to take our portable bars on the road with us to any location across London, the UK and beyond. We have over a decade of experience and in that time we’ve held classes half way up the Shard, in a client’s back garden, and even as far afield as the Scottish Highlands.
